Understanding the Challenge

Addressing Sensory and Emotional Overwhelm

Individuals on the Autism Spectrum often experience unique challenges related to sensory processing, emotional regulation, and social interaction.

For many on the spectrum, the central nervous system operates in a chronic state of high arousal. This elevated baseline can make everyday sensory inputs—such as background noises, lights, or touch—feel intensely overwhelming. When the brain is constantly on high alert, it frequently leads to anxiety, exhaustion, or behavioral meltdowns.

At Center for NeuroFitness in St. Augustine, Florida, we offer a supportive, highly individualized environment. Our approach is not to "cure" autism, but to help the brain function more comfortably by teaching it how to regulate its own arousal levels, thereby reducing daily overwhelm.

An Experienced, Caring Environment

Led by a BCIA Board Certified Fellow with over 15 years of experience, we prioritize patience, clear communication, and a gentle approach. We work closely with families to ensure the individual feels safe and supported throughout their training.

Our Approach

Personalized Brain Training Services

We utilize a combination of established therapies tailored to each individual's comfort level, communication style, and specific goals.

EEG Neurofeedback

Neurotherapy can help calm an overactive nervous system. Using advanced Cygnet software, we provide gentle, real-time feedback based on the individual's brain wave activity.

Because neurofeedback is non-invasive and often relies on watching engaging videos or games, it is highly adaptable. By supporting the brain in finding a more relaxed, stable state, we frequently see improvements in emotional regulation and a decrease in anxiety.

The Listening Program®

For those struggling specifically with sensory processing or auditory overwhelm, this structured auditory therapy can be profoundly helpful.

As a Certified Provider, we offer this gentle, music-based method designed to support sensory processing, listening skills, and spatial awareness in a highly tolerable and non-invasive manner. It is often a wonderful entry point for individuals on the spectrum.
